Job Description

Position Summary

NRD, LLC is seeking a Research and Development Manager to lead our technology strategy and innovations efforts. The role requires a strong scientific background in nuclear physics, materials science or related disciplines, combined with proven leadership in managing the research team and technical projects.

The successful candidate will oversee R&D initiatives from concept through commercialization, ensuring that product development aligns with safety standards, performance goals and market needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the company’s technology strategy with business objectives
  • Lead and develop the R&D team in conducting research and development initiatives focused on Photon Intermediate Direct Energy Conversion, Radioisotope Alloys and Composites, Alphavoltaics and Betavoltaics Nuclear Power Cells and other technology’s that align with the strategic direction and focus of the company
  • Own the integrated technology roadmap, assess emerging technologies, market trends and regulatory updates to steer R&D activities in alignment with business strategy
  • Lead and develop the product development stage gate processes
  • Manage and qualify partners, suppliers, and IP. Scope and run externally executed work with clear statements of work, entry and exit criteria, material custody, and data rights. Oversee the development of new materials and technologies to enhance product efficiency and reliability
  • Develop and maintain documentation including experimental report, technical specifications and regulatory submissions. Build design control and configuration management implement requirements management, change control, part numbering, and document control aligned to ISO 9001 and AS9100 expectations. Ensure full traceability from requirements to design to test to release
  • Ensure all R&D activities comply with all regulatory requirements related to nuclear materials handling, transport and device
  • Represent the company in technical forums, conferences and strategic partnerships.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to internal teams and leadership

Qualifications & Skills Required

  • Advanced degree in Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, Physics. PHD preferred
  • 3+ years in a technology leadership role, ideally with R&D management
  • Proven experience working in product development and analytical testing
  • Strong understanding of nuclear reactions and technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high performing teams in nuclear research and development

Due to contractual requirements and/or security clearance regulations associated with this position, candidates must be U.S. citizens . Proof of citizenship will be required.

Salary Range

Final compensation will be determined by experience, skills, and overall alignment with the role.
