Policy AnalystThe New York State Senate is seeking applicants to fill the position of Policy Analyst for the Senate Majority Counsel's Office of Policy and Research. The incumbent, who reports directly to the Director of Policy and Research, will be responsible for performing the following:Providing research, policy analysis, and central staff support for the Senate.Drafting memoranda analyzing policy initiatives and state legislation.Preparing briefing materials in a wide range of policy areas for members of the Majority Conference.Drafting briefing books, white papers, and other research material on long-term legislation areas.Tracking federal legislation that may be of interest for the Senate.Working collaboratively with other members of the team.Generating new ideas for potential legislation.Other tasks that may be necessary in support of legislative and Majority Conference activity.Legislative experience and strong writing, research, and oratory skills are required. Preference for candidates with advanced degrees or equivalent work experience. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours, including extensive nights and weekends during the legislative session. All candidates are expected to live and work in the Capital Region of New York. Salary shall be commensurate with experience.To move forward, candidates must have:Legislative experienceStrong writing, research, and oratory skillsA bachelor's degreeAbility to work flexible hours, including extensive nights and weekends.Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degrees or equivalent work experience, as well as knowledge and experience in the New York State government.Salary range is $55,000 to $65,000, commensurate with education and experience.
