Barista Position

Small coffee shop located in a 6-story commercial building servicing local tenants and visitors. The barista will greet customers, answer their questions, take orders, and accept payments along with preparing and serving food and/or drinks. The barista will also maintain a clean and well stocked workspace and dining area, update displays, and continuously expand their knowledge of food and beverage quality controls, preparations methods and presentation.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

• Welcoming customers, informing them of menu items, answering questions and accepting orders and payments.
• Preparing food, such as sandwiches or breakfast items, grinding and blending coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea, and serving items to customers.
• Packaging food and beverages for sale
• Cleaning and restocking work and dining areas, emptying trash and sanitizing equipment and utensils
• Taking inventory and replenishing items in display cases and behind counter
• Working as part of a fun, positive team environment
• Adhering to all food safety regulations and quality controls

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in food and beverage preparation or customer service preferred
• Exceptional listening and communication skills
• Experienced and comfortable with busy shifts
• Clean and tidy appearance

Abilities Required

• Ability to walk, bend and stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to obtain and maintain valid CA Food Handers Card upon hire.

Additional Information

The cafe is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Compensation Disclosure

This is a non-exempt, hourly position. The pay range for this role is $16.90 to $20.83 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Overtime is paid in accordance with California state and federal labor laws. Additional compensation, such as bonuses or incentive pay, may be available based on performance and business needs.

At-Will Employment

This position is classified as at-will employment in accordance with California law. Employment may be terminated by either the employer or employee at any time, with or without cause or notice, subject to applicable law.

Work Location

This position is primarily based in our office located at 1200 Discovery Dr, Bakersfield Ca. Regular in-office attendance is required during standard business hours.
